Google Tests AI-First Homepage with Missing Search Button

Google is testing an AI-first redesign of its homepage, and for some users, the classic Search button has disappeared. The new layout features three dedicated AI buttons: Create images, Ask about files, and Brainstorm, which sit under a horizontal search bar. The AI Mode button still remains inside the search box itself.

The AI buttons allow users to upload documents or PDFs without logging in and ask questions about them or brainstorm ideas with Gemini. However, creating images is gated behind a sign-in wall, requiring a verified account due to potential compute costs.

This redesign is currently being tested on logged-out visitors, but not all users are seeing it, and Google hasn't confirmed the scope of the change. The shift towards AI-first features suggests that Google's priorities may be shifting away from its classic Search button.
