Google Tests Direct Messaging from YouTube Ads, Rolls Out Travel Personalization
Google has been testing a feature that allows users to start conversations with brands directly from YouTube Demand Gen ads. This test, which began on August 27, 2026, is part of Google's Demand Gen update and aims to change the way viewers interact with advertisers after clicking on an ad.
The test enables viewers to begin brand conversations through messaging apps without having to visit a website or landing page first. This could potentially add a new conversion path for lead-generation campaigns, but it's still unclear how this feature will be implemented and measured.
Separately, Google has introduced travel-specific personalization in Demand Gen ads. This change allows advertisers to surface local activities, events, and real-time offers in their ads, making them more relevant to travelers. Hotel advertising can also present properties selected for relevant audiences.
The only component of the update that is generally available is Multimodal Video Creation in Asset Studio. This workflow combines storyboarding with the creation of horizontal and vertical assets, allowing multiple orientations to be produced in one place.
