Google Tests Floating Search Box for Chrome

Google is testing an 'Ask Google from anywhere' feature in Chrome Canary for Windows. The experimental feature, known as Project Loom's Everywhere Omnibox, allows users to press Alt + Space while working in another app to bring up a floating search box.

The search interface can appear on top of whatever else you're doing on your computer and uses the language 'Ask Google from anywhere'. It also tells users they can share part or all of their screen and ask Google about what they are looking at.

This is not the first time Google has offered a similar experience. The standalone Google app for Windows already lets users press Alt + Space to bring up Google without opening a browser. However, it's unclear if Project Loom is intended to replace this app or if the two projects are directly connected.
