Google Toggles AI Watermark in Gemini
Google has made its AI watermark optional in Gemini, allowing users to remove the visible mark from AI-generated images, videos, and songs. However, the invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA metadata remain embedded in the file, ensuring that it can still be identified as machine-generated.
The toggle for removing the visible watermark is available in Gemini and Flow, Google's video editor, under Settings and then Media Watermark. Support for this feature is also coming soon to Search.
According to Josh Woodward, Google's vice president for Gemini, the decision to make the watermark optional was made to strike a balance between creative control and safety. While users can now remove the visible mark, the invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA metadata remain in place to provide transparency.
