Google Tributes Dolly Parton with Butterfly Animation

Country music legend Dolly Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Her representatives confirmed her passing to The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network. In honor of her legacy, Google has launched a tribute animation that appears whenever someone searches for her name.

The animation features a butterfly and the phrase 'We'll Always Love You, 1946-2026.' This is in reference to Parton's hit song 'I'll Always Love You,' which she wrote in 1974. The song gained renewed popularity when Whitney Houston covered it in 1992.

Parton had a special connection to butterflies, having grown up in the Smoky Mountains where she would often chase them as a child. Her amusement park, Dollywood, features a butterfly emblem. Parton's passing was met with an outpouring of tributes across the country, including the Empire State Building being lit up pink.
