Google TV Streamer Lag Fix: Enable Apps-Only Mode for Better Performance
Jade Bryan, an experienced Android reviewer at Android Police, recently encountered performance issues with his Google TV Streamer 4K. The device, which he has been using as his main streaming box for some time, had occasional lag and freezing problems.
At first, Bryan suspected that the issue was caused by a poor internet connection or a software bug, but after investigating further, he discovered that the problem was due to the system itself. He found that the Google TV Streamer's modern UI, which features dynamic content on the Home tab and personalized recommendations, was consuming too many resources and slowing down the device.
The solution was to enable 'Apps-only mode' in the Quick Settings menu, which hides unnecessary elements and reduces clutter on the home screen. This simple tweak had a noticeable impact on performance, making the device faster and more responsive. Bryan also recommends clearing the app cache as a backup measure to free up storage space.
It's worth noting that enabling Apps-only mode comes with some trade-offs, such as disabling search and voice search, but for Bryan, the improved performance was well worth it.
