Google Unveils €13 Billion Expansion Plan for Finland

Google has announced plans to invest at least €13 billion ($15 billion) in digital infrastructure and supporting projects in Finland over the next two years. The investment is part of a long-term commitment by Google to deepen its presence in Europe, with a focus on expanding its datacenters and investing in low-carbon electricity generation.

The company will expand its facilities at Hamina, which currently houses seven separate data halls, as well as build new datacenters near Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala. Google has secured additional onshore wind power purchase agreements (PPAs) with green energy firms Valorem and Suomen Hyötytuuli, bringing the total capacity to 629 MW.

The company has also contracted for a 94 MW battery system near its Kajaani site, expected to connect to the grid in late 2027. This investment underscores Google's commitment to responsible growth, pairing infrastructure expansion with new energy capacity and initiatives for energy affordability and grid enhancements.
