Google Unveils $15 Billion Bet on Finland's AI Infrastructure
Google is making its largest single investment in Europe to date with a $15 billion bet on AI infrastructure in Finland. The company plans to spend at least €13 billion over the next two years, covering data centers, clean energy, and local community projects.
The investment will build on Google's history in the country, which dates back 15 years when it converted a former paper mill into a data center. The new investment will expand this site and add three entirely new data centers in Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala.
Google expects the construction phase to support more than 37,000 jobs across Finland and add €3.6 billion to the country's GDP each year. Once operational, the sites are expected to support around 7,000 permanent jobs, with average pay about 24% above Finland's national median wage.
