Google Unveils Enhanced Personalization Features Across Search, Discovery, and News
Google has rolled out new personalization features across its search, discovery, and news platforms. The updates aim to make it easier for users to tailor their content feed and find preferred sources of information.
The first update is a 'Preferred Sources' button that publishers can embed directly on their site, allowing readers to follow them on Google without leaving the page.
Additionally, the Discover tab now features a natural language chat interface that enables users to tailor content they see in their feed. This feature allows users to specify topics and sources they are interested in, making their feed more personalized.
The news platform has also introduced customizable daily audio briefings by topic in the Google News app on Android.
While personalization is not a new concept for Google, with its Personalized Search Beta launched in 2004, these updates represent an important leap forward. MediaPost's Google and search lead reporter Laurie Sullivan rates the importance of this news at 7 out of 10, describing it as 'a significant advancement' but also noting that there is still room for improvement.
