Google Unveils First In-House Tracking Tag and Pixel Watch 5
Google has made a significant move in the tracking tag market by launching its first in-house designed device, called Pixel Tag. This compact tracking device combines crowdsourced wide-area location finding with short-range precision pinpointing via Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology. The Pixel Tag is made of durable stainless steel, resistant to flexing and cracking, and is IP67 water- and dust-resistant.
The Pixel Tag uses Google's Find Hub network to quickly and easily locate items such as keys, wallets, or luggage. This is a departure from the company's previous reliance on third-party manufacturers for tracking tags. The device supports Bluetooth 6.0 standard, which enables it to combine Ultra-Wideband functionality with Bluetooth Channel Sounding.
The Pixel Tag is available for pre-order at $29 for one unit or $99 for a four-pack. It will launch in November this year. In addition to the Pixel Tag, Google has also announced its latest wearable device, the Pixel Watch 5. This watch features 'breathing emergency detection' which tracks the wearer's blood oxygen level and automatically calls emergency services if it drops dangerously low.
