Google Unveils Major Android Update with Cross-Device Connectivity Upgrades
Google has released the September 2026 System Services Update for Android devices. This update introduces significant changes to device connectivity, AI tools, and file-sharing features.
The update includes major cross-device connectivity improvements, allowing users to browse and manage their phone's internal files directly from their laptop using Google Play Services v26.34. Gesture-based 'Tap-to-Share' has also been introduced, enabling users to instantly share contact cards, photos, high-res videos, web links, and live location data by tapping two phones together or using physical gestures.
Notification mirroring now allows users to view, dismiss, and manage their Android phone notifications directly on Googlebooks and Android tablets. Additionally, Play Services enables the ability to launch and interact with mobile apps directly from a laptop interface.
The update also includes AI-led device onboarding, which guides users through setting up a new Android phone using conversational AI. The Play Store has been updated to allow searching for apps by uploading or selecting a photo, matching app recommendations to visual content within the imagery. Gemini Notebook expansion now allows readers to summarize, query, and interact with select ebook titles using AI.
Google Wallet has received upgrades, including editable Pix QR payflows, which allow users to edit dynamic transaction amounts directly through QR code scans. A dedicated events hub in Google Wallet aggregates digital tickets, passes, and concert cards into an easy-to-access layout.
