Google Unveils Phone-as-Trackpad Feature for Upcoming Googlebook Laptops
Googlebook laptops are on their way, featuring tight integration with Android phones. Users will be able to cast apps from their phone to their Googlebook and interact with them remotely.
The latest APK teardown of Google's Cross-Device Services system app reveals an in-development 'Cast trackpad' tool that lets users control other hardware using their phone's touchscreen.
This feature supports basic gesture controls, including the ability to point at and interact with screen objects. It also includes discrete buttons for back navigation and volume controls, as well as sensitivity settings to adjust responsiveness.
The 'Cast trackpad' is likely intended for use with Googlebook laptops, which will be available from multiple manufacturers this fall. This feature could be useful in scenarios where users need to control their laptop from across the room, such as when sharing a presentation on a projector.
