Google Unveils Pixel 11 Series with AI-Driven Camera Upgrades
Google unveiled its flagship Pixel 11 series at an annual event, boasting upgraded processors and cameras. The range consists of four models: the base Pixel 11 ($899), Pixel 11 Pro ($1,099), Pixel 11 Pro XL ($1,299), and Pixel 11 Pro Fold ($1,899). These devices run on Google's Tensor G6 processor, which provides a 50% increase in compute performance compared to its previous generation.
The Tensor G6 processor is designed to accelerate the execution of the Gemini Nano generative AI model on-device. This results in a significant boost in AI workloads, with tasks running up to 3.5-times faster and consuming less energy by the same proportion. Additionally, a revamped CPU speeds web browsing by 25%.
The Pixel 11 series features improved camera capabilities, including a dual rear camera setup on the base model with a 48MP main sensor offering 56% better light sensitivity than its predecessor. The upgraded ultrawide lens enables up to 30-times zoom using Tensor G6 algorithms. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL have a 48MP periscope telephoto sensor, providing five-times optical zoom and the same proportion of framing in portrait orientation.
Paolo Pescatore, founder and president of PP Foresight, noted that the smartphone battle is shifting from hardware specifications to AI, software, and user experience. He believes Google's Pixel 11 range showcases what an 'AI-first' smartphone can look like, with Gemini becoming more deeply embedded.
