Google Updates Gemini for Home with Improved Spotify Support and Smart Lock Features
Google has released an update for its Gemini for Home voice assistant, which is part of its broader effort to improve its smart home offerings. The latest changes include better recognition of Spotify requests and playlists, as well as fixes to camera streaming issues.
The update also allows users to broadcast messages more easily, simply by saying 'Hey Google, broadcast message' followed by the message. Additionally, users can now specify an exact color temperature for compatible smart lights using their voice, such as 'Make the living room lights 2,400 kelvins.'
Other improvements include more detailed support for European-style smart locks and fixes to temperature readings and controls, which should now consistently use the user's preferred Celsius or Fahrenheit setting. The update also resolves an iOS issue that incorrectly rounded half-degree Fahrenheit thermostat setpoints down.
The updates are part of Google's ongoing effort to improve its Gemini for Home voice assistant, which has been rolling out steadily over the past few months. Originally announced in August 2025, the platform is designed to replace the Google Assistant across devices like smart speakers and displays.
