Google Updates Live Translation Feature for Android and iOS
Google has updated its live translation feature for Android and iOS devices. The update allows users to have live translations running in the background while they use other apps or when their screen is locked on Android, and also enables earpiece translation on iOS.
The live translation function supports over 70 languages and provides near-real-time audio translation. Google reports that more than one-third of its live translation sessions now exceed five minutes in duration, making the background translation feature useful for longer conversations or multitasking.
iOS users can now receive real-time translations directly via their phone's earpiece, a feature already available on Android. To use this feature, users are recommended to hold their phone to their ear when headphones are not available.
The updates are currently being rolled out, with background translation for iOS coming soon but no specific date announced. Google Translate supports over 70 languages and the rollout may be staged, affecting availability on different devices.
