Google Updates Maps and Search to Reflect Trump's Lake Ontario Renaming
Google has made some changes to its maps and search engine in response to an executive order from US President Donald Trump. The order renamed Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes, to 'Lake America'.
Last week, Trump issued a proclamation stating that he was directing the renaming of Lake Ontario to recognize its importance to the US economy.
Google explained that it follows official government sources for name changes, and since the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has formally changed the name, people using Maps in the US will see 'Lake America', while those in Canada will continue to see 'Lake Ontario'.
