Google has introduced a new feature in its Google Wallet service that allows parents to set up secure balances for their kids. This feature enables children under the age of 18 to make purchases using Google Pay on NFC-enabled Android or Wear OS devices, even if they don't have their own bank account.

The secure balance is managed through Family Link, which gives parents full control over the balance and activity. They can set specific spending limits, track transactions in real-time, and check account activity under one single roof. Parents can also lock or unlock the balance instantly, useful in cases where the phone is lost or stolen.

The feature aims to teach children money management and give them independence, according to Google. To get started, parents need to head to the Google Wallet website, select their child's name from the Family tab, and follow the on-screen instructions to set up a balance.
