Google Warns Advertisers Against Over-Reliance on AI in YouTube Marketing
Google's recent push for advertisers to incorporate AI into their marketing strategies on YouTube has a warning attached. The tech giant is cautioning brands not to over-rely on artificial intelligence, reminding them that human voices are still essential in brand creative.
The guidance comes from Google's analysis of recent Demand Gen campaigns across multiple products, including YouTube. According to the study, when human voices are present in a piece of creative, conversion rates increase by 12%. This is in contrast to using AI-powered tools, which can provide slight upticks to conversion rates but are ultimately less effective.
Google suggests that advertisers include text overlays and visualize products within the first five seconds of a video to boost their performance. However, it's also advising brands to remove assets that appear clickable but aren't, as well as creative that doesn't feature actual human faces. 'Images with a visible human presence consistently outperform other assets,' reads the post.
While this may seem counterintuitive given the increasing sophistication of AI-powered tools, Google is not telling advertisers to abandon automation altogether. Rather, it's advocating for balance between innovation and human connection.
