Google Workspace Lets Gemini Access Company Data by Default
Google's Workspace lets Gemini access company data by default, but administrators can turn it off. This capability has sparked concerns about compliance and privacy risks.
Gemini is a chatbot that uses AI to analyze workspace data in order to provide relevant responses to user prompts. It can access email messages, Google Docs, Calendar, Meet, and Gmail as part of its analysis.
Google's Workspace considers each of these sources a 'Workspace Intelligence Source,' but the company claims it doesn't use them for training or share prompts or generated responses with other users or organizations.
However, some experts have raised concerns about internal data governance. They argue that allowing Gemini to access workspace data could lead to compliance and regulatory issues, as well as insider threats from curious or malicious employees.
