Google Wraps Up August Spam Update in Under Three Days
Google has completed its August 2026 spam update, which rolled out over two days and 16 hours. The update began on August 18 at 9:27 a.m. Pacific and finished on August 21. This is the third spam update Google has released in 2026.
The rollout duration places the August update in the middle tier of Google's recent spam update speeds. For comparison, the March 2026 spam update completed in under 20 hours, making it the fastest confirmed spam update in the company's history. The June 2026 update took two days and one hour to complete.
Google did not announce any new spam policies alongside the August update. Instead, the rollout represents an improvement to SpamBrain, Google's machine learning-based automated spam detection system. This system now better identifies tactics that already violate Google's existing spam policies.
The update targets practices including cloaking, doorway pages, hidden text, mass-generated low-quality content, and keyword stuffing.
