Google Yields to Bradford on Avon: Removes Hyphens from Town Name

A long-standing campaign by residents of Bradford on Avon has finally paid off. Google has agreed to remove hyphens from the town's name, which have been present for over 130 years.

The issue began in 1899 when Great Western Railway (GWR) added dashes to its railway sign, and locals claim that they then started being used by mapmakers and eventually became a widely accepted convention.

Despite the town council's efforts to correct this, including launching a recent campaign dubbed the 'great dash debate', Google had continued to display the name with hyphens. However, after their intervention, the tech giant has now agreed to make the change.
