Google's upcoming Googlebook is drawing comparisons to its original Chromebooks from 2011. At an Acer event in Berlin, Google VP of ChromeOS John Solomon framed Googlebook as a response to the shift towards AI-centered computing.

The first Chromebooks were designed for a cloud-first world and stripped away legacy OS bloat to provide instant-on, fast, and secure devices. Today's computing landscape is facing another paradigm shift with AI at its core. Googlebook is engineered around native Android architecture and deep Gemini Intelligence, providing contextual intelligence and seamless cross-device continuity.

Solomon likened the transition to Googlebook as a repeat of Chromebooks 15 years ago, but this time for an AI-centered world. Acer's first Googlebook is 'coming soon' according to Solomon, although exact details such as processor specs, display panels, pricing, and software branding were not revealed.

The full hardware and software will be unveiled at a dedicated media preview event in New York City on September 15. According to Chrome Unboxed founder Robby Payne, Googlebook represents the beginning of a brand-new computing chapter, with significant changes expected over the next decade.
