Googlebook Preorders Open September 21, But Details Remain Elusive
Google has announced that preorders for Googlebook will open on September 21, but the company is remaining tight-lipped about what to expect from the device. In a teaser video released on X, Google shows off a light bar, but it doesn't reveal much else about the device's capabilities. According to Google, Googlebooks are not manufactured by the company itself, but rather by partners such as Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
Googlebook is described as more than just a Chromebook with a new OS, and it seems that this is an understatement. Instead of running on ChromeOS, Googlebooks will be powered by Android-based Aluminum OS, which will enable them to natively run Android apps. This could solve the major problem plaguing Chromebooks: limited app support.
The device's hardware is also expected to be high-end, with a 16:10 display and possibly an OLED panel with a high refresh rate. The processor options are likely to include both Snapdragon X Elite and Intel CPUs. However, the bigger question is whether the software will take advantage of this powerful hardware.
