Googlebook's Three-Tier Strategy: High-End Launch and Mainstream Ambitions
Google's Chromebook strategy is shifting as it launches Googlebook, a new computing platform. Unlike its early days, when Chromebooks were cheap and low-powered, Googlebook will start with high-end features.
The company has defined a three-tier hardware strategy: AL Premium, AL Mass Premium, and AL Entry. The AL Premium tier includes high-end materials, OLED panels, and top-tier silicon, targeting the halo launch market.
The AL Mass Premium tier balances 8-core silicon with mid-range pricing, while the AL Entry tier is designed for cost-optimized silicon to bring native Android desktop apps to affordable laptops.
Google's decision to start at the top with high-end devices aims to convince developers to build responsive interfaces for heavy apps like Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva.
