Google's $10 Million Data Purchase Sparks IP Ownership Dispute
US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York is seeing a dispute over intellectual property ownership. Springshot Inc., a digital logistics and operations platform, has raised objections to Spirit Aviation Holdings Inc.'s proposed $10 million sale of de-identified business data to Google LLC.
The data in question includes proprietary intellectual property owned by Springshot under a 2022 software agreement with Spirit. According to the limited objection filed August 21, this ownership was not explicitly excluded from the data being sold to Google.
Google aims to use this information for training its artificial intelligence, but Springshot is concerned that the sale would infringe on their intellectual property rights. The company's primary concern lies in the potential misuse of proprietary information by a competitor.
