Google's Ads API Developer Assistant Becomes Global AI Coding Plugin
Google has released an updated version of its Ads API Developer Assistant, now known as version 4.0.0. This new update transforms the tool into a global AI coding plugin that can be used across multiple projects and development environments.
The changes aim to improve the integration and functionality of AI coding tools by introducing features such as GAQL validation, enhanced troubleshooting, and live reporting. According to Google's own Ads Developer Blog announcement, the new plugin model expands where the Assistant can run, with support for Antigravity and Anthropic's Claude Code.
For martech and marketing engineering teams, the update is significant because it moves away from a standalone local workspace project structure and instead installs as a globally available plugin. This means that developers can now access Google Ads-specific commands, rules, and diagnostic skills across multiple repositories and integrated development environments (IDEs).
The new architecture also promises quicker replies, lower CPU and memory use, and token reduction by pulling in only the required rules and schemas for a given task.
