Google's AI Music Model Sued Over Alleged Unlicensed Use of YouTube Songs

A group of independent artists has filed a new lawsuit against Google, accusing the tech giant of training its AI music model Lyria 3 on unlicensed music pulled from YouTube.

The complaint alleges that Google used its ownership of YouTube to pivot from being a distributor to a competitor, extracting audio elements from videos and feeding them into the Lyria training set without paying artists.

The lawsuit was filed by an all-indie group of music creators who publish their work on YouTube and claim their songs were likely included in the Lyria 3 training dataset.
