Google's AI Rewrites Product Titles in Ads, Raises Concerns for Retailers
Google has introduced a new feature in its AI Max for Shopping platform that allows advertisers to see how their product titles are being rewritten by artificial intelligence. According to Thomas Phillips, founder of DTC SEO Agency, this change is more significant than just tweaking a few words in an advertisement.
The Product Titles report shows examples of AI-generated titles alongside the original product title provided by the merchant. Google claims that AI-created titles can be shown when its systems determine they are more relevant to the shopper. The report includes metrics such as impressions, product clicks, click-through rate, cost, and average CPC.
However, Phillips warns retailers not to focus solely on whether the AI-generated title gets more clicks. He notes that a rewritten title could perform well in terms of CTR but still be worse for the business if it changes important product attributes or introduces misleading information.
