Google has rolled out an updated AI weather model called WeatherNext 3, which is expected to be more accurate in predicting rain and snowfall. The new model can produce forecasts with unprecedented resolution, five times sharper than its previous version.

The company says that it's able to make faster predictions by incorporating live satellite data into the model. This allows for hourly updates based on the most recent observations, compared to the previous model which updated every 6 hours.

WeatherNext 3 is particularly helpful in predicting rain and snow from fast-moving weather systems, and can also fill gaps left in locations with fewer ground-based rain gauges. Google claims that users will see precipitation forecasts up to 50% more accurate when looking at least a day in advance.
