Google's ATLAS Project Unveils Global AI Adoption Patterns and Challenges for Scientists
Google's AI & Economy ATLAS project has released new insights into how artificial intelligence is being used in various occupations around the world. The data visualizations and research provide a deeper understanding of AI adoption rates, usage patterns, and time savings for scientists.
The study found that India's creative industry leads the world in AI adoption, with 19% of work-related AI usage coming from arts, design, and media occupations. In contrast, the U.S. is leading in technical AI adoption, with computer and mathematical occupations accounting for 30% of work-related AI usage.
Researchers also discovered that scientists are using AI at a higher rate than many other occupations, with nearly half of surveyed scientists using some form of AI every day. The study found that scientists report saving almost seven hours a week with AI, freeing up time for more research. However, there are now bottlenecks further down the research production pipeline, creating a backlog of hypotheses.
