Google's Bid for Spirit Airlines Data Hit by Union Objection and Higher Rival Offer

Google's bid to purchase Spirit Airlines' data has hit two major roadblocks. A union representing flight attendants is contesting the sale, arguing that the privacy terms protect customers rather than employees. Additionally, a rival bidder, Micro1, has entered with a higher bid of $12.5 million.

The proposed deal would give Google access to approximately 100 million emails and 80,000 email accounts, as well as over a million time card records dating back to December 2012. The data also includes employee records from August 1986, payroll records, and crew pairings.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA has filed an objection to the sale, requesting that the court decline the transaction unless it extends similar protections to flight attendant data as it does to consumer data.
