Google's Data Center Plans Spark Debate in Hermantown
A proposed data center project in Hermantown, Minnesota has continued to spark conversation and controversy. Google is behind the project, which would see up to three buildings constructed on the site.
Representatives from Google held a presentation at the AAD Shrine Event Center to discuss the energy, water, construction, and design concepts for the project. Tyler Huebner, representing Google, stated that the company's proposed system is 'consistent with what we outlined in the AUAR', which refers to a closed-loop system.
However, not everyone present at the meeting was supportive of the project. Sarah Lofald, a Hermantown resident and opponent of the data center, expressed skepticism about learning new information from Google's presentation, stating 'I don't expect to learn too much new because, you know, we've basically been told that it's still in the process. They're still learning. We're still adapting.'
