Google's Former Chief Scientist Jeff Dean Leaves for AI Startup

Jeff Dean, Google's 30th employee and former chief scientist, left the search giant last week to build his own AI startup, Discovery Loop. In a rare glimpse into his final days at Google, Dean shared his hourly schedule from the KDD Conference in Jeju, South Korea.

According to Dean, he spent the night before his departure responding to messages and was up as late as 2 a.m. He acknowledged that some of his colleagues may have sent him internal chat messages after he closed his laptop for the last time on Thursday afternoon.

Dean's departure marks the end of a decade-long tenure at Google, where he spent years climbing the corporate ladder to become one of the company's most senior leaders. His new venture, Discovery Loop, aims to tackle complex challenges in AI research and development.
