Google's Gemini App Surpasses 950 Million Monthly Users Amid AI Restructuring
Google's Gemini app has reached an impressive milestone of 950 million monthly users. The achievement comes as part of a broader restructuring within Google DeepMind, which includes a new role for Demis Hassabis as Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, stated that the company is 'standing in the foothills of the singularity' as it prioritizes advancements in artificial general intelligence. This strategic shift allows Hassabis to focus on long-term AGI research while Koray Kavukcuoglu takes over as Senior Vice President of Google DeepMind.
Kavukcuoglu, a veteran of DeepMind with 13 years of service, will oversee Gemini model development, frontier AI research, and the Gemini app and developer teams. The company's commitment to continued innovation in AI models and applications is underscored by Kavukcuoglu's appointment.
