Google's Gemini Notebook Brings AI-Powered Book Interaction

Google has expanded its AI-powered note-taking app, Gemini Notebook, to allow users to interact with books directly. The 'Expert Intelligence' feature enables users to bring titles from Google Play Books into Gemini Notebook, where they can ask questions about the material and generate various content types.

The new feature is supported by over 100,000 books from major publishers like Penguin Random House, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, O'Reilly Media, and others. This includes titles from authors such as Michael Pollan, Kim Scott, Steven Pinker, and Jennifer Wallace, who have also created 'Featured Notebooks' with additional source material.

Users can view the full text of a book within Gemini Notebook and generate content such as recipes, infographics, AI podcasts, and more. The feature is designed to create new revenue opportunities for authors and publishers while providing users with a personalized collection of knowledge and expertise.

Google has implemented protections to prevent other users from accessing material from books they haven't purchased. When sharing a Notebook that includes a purchased book, users who don't own the title will see it listed as a source but won't be able to view the full text or related information.
