Google's General Counsel Warns Against Over-Reliance on AI in Law
Google's General Counsel Halimah DeLaine Prado emphasizes that AI should complement human judgment, not replace it. Speaking to Axios, she explained that while AI can gather and synthesize information quickly, it cannot make final decisions.
In a wide-ranging interview, DeLaine Prado discussed Google's recent entry into the legal AI space with Gemini Enterprise for Legal. The platform is designed to help law firms and in-house teams with tasks like contract management, regulatory monitoring, and data discovery.
However, she warned that relying too heavily on AI can lead to 'hallucinations' or false information being presented as fact. This was highlighted by a recent Georgia Supreme Court ruling that suspended an assistant district attorney for using AI to write a filing with nonexistent case citations.
