Google's Live Translate Upgrade Brings Enhanced Mic Control to Android XR
Google is revamping its Live Translate feature for Android XR devices, which will soon include smart glasses from brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The upgrade includes a 'Listening area' setting that allows users to switch between Front-only and Surrounding-area mic modes.
This new feature will give users more control over the microphones on their Android XR device, allowing them to focus on one-on-one conversations or translate speech in the nearby area. The strings of code found in version 10.32.66 of the Google Translate app for Android suggest that this feature is specifically designed for Android XR smart glasses.
Currently, there's only one commercially available Android XR device, the Samsung Galaxy XR. However, upcoming releases from other brands will change this landscape. It's worth noting that while this upgrade may seem exciting, it's still in development and may not make it to a public release.
