The long-awaited double-tap lock feature is reportedly in the works for Google Pixel smartphones. According to Android Authority, code discovered in the latest beta build of Android 17 QPR2 indicates that Google is working on this feature.

The gesture allows users to turn off their display by double-tapping an empty area of the home or lock screen, without having to press the power button at all. This functionality has been available on devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus for years, but Pixel users have had to adjust to using the power button instead.

The code discovery is not a new development, as hints of this feature first appeared in an early beta of Android 16 QPR1 back in 2025. However, it ultimately didn't make it into a public release at that time. It's unclear when the double-tap lock feature will be available to all Pixel users.
