Google's Next Wearable Device Spotted in FCC Filing
A new FCC filing has sparked speculation about Google's next smartwatch or fitness tracker. The filing, submitted by Weifang Goertek Electronics on September 10, describes a device with model number G8BL6 as a 'Wireless Device'.
However, the test documents and paperwork reveal more about the device's features and design. It appears to be a wrist-worn device with a screen, GNSS capabilities, and Bluetooth LE connectivity. The device also supports ADB (Android Debug Bridge) version 1.0.39, which is part of the Android debugging toolkit.
The connection between G8BL6 and Fitbit Air, another Goertek-manufactured product, cannot be ignored. Google's regulatory documentation identifies Fitbit Air as model GW9C8 with FCC ID SZGGW9C8, using the same SZG grantee code as G8BL6.
The combination of features and design makes G8BL6 a likely candidate for a new Google smartwatch or fitness tracker. However, nothing in the filing explicitly identifies Google as the customer, and Goertek manufactures hardware for multiple companies.
