Google's Pixel 11 Launch Event Falls Flat Despite Trevor Noah
Google's recent attempt to connect with consumers through its Pixel 11 series launch event ended up being a cringe-fest, according to Android Central Editor-in-Chief Shruti Shekar. The eight-hour delayed live show on YouTube, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, drew only 57,000 viewers at one point and failed to capture the audience's attention.
Shekar acknowledges that partnering with Trevor Noah could have been a smart move, but the execution fell short. The event tried to make consumers understand the new devices' capabilities through a lifestyle show, but it came across as uninteresting and forced. At times, Noah seemed bored and even made awkward jokes.
The one redeeming aspect of the show was when Joël Yawili, Senior Product Manager for Gemini app, appeared on stage. He brought a personal touch to the presentation by sharing his genuine connection with Noah, who also grew up in the same town. This interaction made the conversation more engaging and authentic.
Another highlight was the demonstration of Google's new Sign-to-Text feature, which showed its potential impact on the hard-of-hearing community. However, the event overall felt like a missed opportunity to connect with consumers effectively.
