Google's Pixel 11 Phones Bring Proactive AI to the Forefront

Google's new Pixel 11 line is all about software this year, with a focus on delivering timely and proactive assistance to users. To achieve this, Google has upgraded its Gemini Intelligence computer-use agent, which will provide users with glanceable cards inside apps as they go about their day. For instance, if a friend messages you about an upcoming trip, the phone will display a card with your flight details, indicating whether it's on time or delayed.

The phones will also attempt to deliver contextual help in various scenarios, such as suggesting saving events to the Calendar or providing relevant information to Google Wallet. Additionally, users can expect proactive suggestions based on their location, which will be previewed on the new Pixels before being rolled out to other devices. However, it's worth noting that these features may require a subscription for higher usage.

Google is also expanding how users can interact with its phones, debuting a sign-language-to-text model called SL2T, which allows deaf and hard of hearing users to sign at their phone to search the web, write messages, and converse with Gemini. Furthermore, the new Pixel 11 line will feature a camera tool called Magic Capture, which uses AI models to analyze around 400 frames to deliver the perfect 12-megapixel snap.
