Google's Pixel 11 Pro Notification Light Falls Short of Nothing's Glyph System
The latest Pixel 11 Pro smartphones have a new feature called HiLight, which is essentially a notification light on the back of the phone. When face down, it glows in different colors to indicate who's calling or what app is pinging you.
This is not entirely new, as Google had a similar feature called the notification dot on its Nexus phones years ago. However, Nothing Phones have been innovating in this area with their Glyph system, which offers more context and customization options than HiLight.
The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro's Glyphs are arranged in a dot-matrix array, allowing them to display letters, numbers, and symbols, as well as help frame selfies. In contrast, the Pixel 11 Pro's HiLight is limited to five colors and only provides basic notification indicators.
