Google's Pixel Phones Get Creative Control Boost with Camera Looks

Google's Pixel phones have long been known for their exceptional point-and-shoot cameras, but users have often complained about the aggressive HDR processing that can make images feel flat and overly processed. The company has finally addressed this issue with its new Camera Looks feature, which is set to launch with the Pixel 11 series.

Camera Looks allows users to select from a range of film-inspired color profiles that can be tweaked further to match their personal style. These styles include options like Original, Natural, Shadows, and Vanilla, as well as specialized film emulations such as Digi, Black Tie, Minimal, Editorial, Classic, and Velvet.

The feature is not just a simple filter; it also optimizes the camera's processing engine to preserve natural shadows and avoid the telltale flattened look. This means that users can now capture images with more nuanced tones and textures without having to resort to manual editing.

While Camera Looks is a welcome addition to the Pixel 11 series, it's surprising that Google took so long to catch up with the competition. Apple introduced Photographic Styles on the iPhone years ago, and other Android manufacturers like Vivo have also been offering similar features for some time.
