Google's Secret Filter: How to Get Exact Search Results
Google's search results can be overwhelming, especially when they're cluttered with irrelevant information. But what if you could filter out the noise and get exact results for your query? The answer lies in Google Verbatim, a feature that shuts down 'helpful chaos' and returns only pages containing your exact words in the exact order you typed them.
According to Alex Barrientos at Gadget Review, when you switch to Verbatim Mode, Google stops correcting spelling, swapping synonyms, personalizing based on your history, and making entire words optional. This means that if you search for 'vinyl records,' you'll get results about vinyl records, not pictures of albums.
To access Verbatim Mode, look for the 'Tools' heading to the far right of your screen (on a desktop) and hover over the 'All Results' option. Click on 'Verbatim' and your search results should refresh with more accurate answers to your initial query.
While there's no one-button solution to default to Verbatim Mode every time, Barrientos suggests creating a custom browser with a URL that forces Verbatim mode automatically. This involves adding a new engine in your browser settings and using the tbs=li:1 parameter, which forces Verbatim mode.
