Google's AI leadership shake-up continues as one of its longest-serving pioneers leaves to start his own AI company. Jeff Dean, who spent 27 years at Google, announced he is leaving to co-found DiscoLoop AI alongside fellow Google AI veterans Sanjay Ghemawat and Quoc Viet Le.

This comes just a day after Demis Hassabis stepped into a broader role as Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet. Hassabis' new role will allow him to focus on the company's long-term AI strategy and scientific breakthroughs, while Google DeepMind CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu takes over day-to-day leadership.

The departure of Dean and the appointment of Hassabis highlight a broader shift in the AI industry. Many researchers who helped build today's leading AI systems are now launching their own startups focused on next-generation AI applications.
