GPU Prices Soar to New Heights: Nvidia and AMD Models See Staggering Increases

The current state of GPU pricing has seen steep increases across both Nvidia and AMD's latest generation graphics cards, released in January 2025. With no signs of new releases on the horizon until at least late 2027 or even 2028, consumers are left with little choice but to purchase current-gen GPUs at exorbitant prices.

According to Tom's Hardware's GPU Price Index, which tracks prices twice weekly, Nvidia and AMD have seen significant price hikes since their release. The initial MSRP launch prices for both manufacturers' top-end models were already high, with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 starting at $1,999.

However, prices have continued to climb, with the RTX 5090 now retailing at a staggering $4,288, a whopping 114.5% increase from its initial price. AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT has also seen a notable price hike, rising by 20% to $719.

The current economic climate means that finding significant discounts on GPUs is unlikely, with major retailers such as Black Friday and Prime Day offering little more than minor price reductions. As prices continue to rise, consumers are left wondering whether holding out for the next generation of GPUs will be worth it.
