Granger Residents Raise Concerns Over Proposed Microsoft Data Center Tax District

A recent community meeting in Granger, Indiana, was packed as residents expressed concerns about a proposed tax increment financing (TIF) district expansion tied to a Microsoft data center. The TIF district would allow Microsoft to pay millions of dollars in property taxes, which would be used for projects within the district, such as road improvements.

Concerned resident Christopher Huff stated that many attendees left with unanswered questions and a lack of clarity about how the funds would be utilized. He noted that there is no written plan presented by the county to address these concerns.

The St. Joseph County Council was set to vote on the TIF district expansion on August 25, but the decision has been tabled until September at the request of residents and council members who attended the meeting.
