Greenock Data Centre Plans Unveiled
The developers behind plans to transform a former IBM site in Greenock, Scotland into an 80,000-square-metre data centre are calling it a 'new chapter' for the area.
Slate Island Developments Ltd has submitted a planning application to Inverclyde Council for the scheme, which would create a major digital infrastructure hub.
The site at Spango Valley was once home to IBM's operations until its closure in 2017. The developers say it is now a prime location for a data centre due to 'strong interest' from the sector.
Data centres are becoming increasingly important, supporting everyday digital services, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
The plans propose four data centre buildings, landscaping, parking, and sustainable drainage infrastructure. Most of the existing woodland around the site boundaries would be retained.
