Greenock Data Centre Plans Unveiled: IBM Site Set for Digital Revamp
The developers behind plans to transform an old IBM site in Greenock into an 80,000-square-metre data centre say it will 'open a new chapter' for the area.
The proposal, submitted by Slate Island Developments Ltd to Inverclyde Council, would bring the former industrial site back into productive use and create a major digital infrastructure hub. The developers claim there is strong interest from the data centre sector and that the facility will support everyday digital services, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence.
The plans propose four data centre buildings, landscaping, parking, and sustainable drainage infrastructure. Most of the existing woodland around the site boundaries would be retained.
The developer says the proposed development forms part of a wider regeneration vision for the site, which also includes a separately proposed battery energy storage system.
