Greenock Site Eyed for $1 Billion Data Centre Revamp
A former IBM site in Greenock, Scotland is being considered for redevelopment into a major data centre.
The proposals, submitted by Slate Island Developments Ltd to Inverclyde Council, include four data centre buildings with approximately 80,000 square metres of floorspace.
This brownfield site was previously home to IBM's Spango Valley operation, which opened in 1954 and closed in 2017. The buildings were demolished in 2020.
The Scottish Government has recognized the strategic importance of data centres to Scotland's digital economy and their potential for regional economic development.
